Lomax had a passion for folk music and began collecting with his father when he was 18. He spent his life recording music from the traditional cultures of the Caribbean, Britain, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Italy and the American south.
He collected an eclectic mix of American folk tradition: prison work songs, field hollers, folktales, spirituals, ballads and Appalachian guitar pickers.
Lomax has 70 years worth of film and recordings in his collection. I've posted my three favourite videos here out of the few that I watched.
This is a video of a funeral parade for Marshall Poland Sr. The dancers are boundless.
