Elfriede Jelinek's images cement themselves into your mind. Some scenes are so repulsive and disturbing they made me feel sick. There are no heroes in the story, no-one to like or sympathise with.
In an interview with the Austrian Film Commission Elfriede Jelinek says:
My writings are limited to depicting analytically, but also polemically (sarcastically), the horrors of reality. Redemption is the specialty of other authors, male and female. My writing, my method, is based on criticism, not utopianism.
