A good way to start off the night at Java Java is to eat a spinach quiche and that's exactly what I did. This was followed by Charliah who played a beautiful set of classical music on her violin. I know she played Bach because it was written on her song book! It was incredible that I recognised all the pieces she played.
The night gathered momentum with Aileen's set. She played keyboards and sang her original songs. I love listening to Aileen sing, her voice flows like a river and makes you want to dive into infinity pools. It was also the first time I heard Darren perform with Aileen. Darren and I jammed through a raging thunderstorm on a back porch last summer. Rain was coming in from all sides and lightning bolts were striking the hills around us. It was good to see him playing guitar without the threat of electrocution.Charliah and I came on for the last set and we played out the night to a good bunch of friends and a lovely couple who said they come into Java Java every Saturday to listen to live music. They sat right in front of us and were treating themselves to two very large chocolate milkshakes. After that it was time for Charliah and I to treat ourselves. We spent the rest of the night with Tamara and Reign - whom I hadn't seen for ages, at a great little bar called Blackbirds. But before you leave this page have a listen to Aileen Alonzo singing with Josh O'Connor. This is my favourite song of theirs.
